From Hilarion Mitchell, OPC Social Justice Chair
This Earth Day, we are reminded that caring for creation is part of our call as Catholic women. The 2026 theme, OUR POWER, OUR PLANET™, invites us to recognize the influence we hold — as individuals, families, and communities — to protect God’s creation and build a more sustainable future.
CWL members across Ontario are encouraged to choose 2–3 small habits they can sustain. Long‑term consistency is where real transformation happens.
• At Home: Switch to LED bulbs, unplug idle electronics, reduce water waste, start composting.
• Everyday Choices: Use reusable bags, bottles, and cups; buy local and seasonal food; enjoy one plant‑based meal a week; choose minimal packaging.
• Getting Around: Walk or bike for short trips, use public transit, carpool, review purchasing practices.
• Community & Nature: Join a park or river cleanup, plant a tree or native plants.
• Digital & Advocacy: Go paperless, learn and share about sustainability, support eco‑conscious brands.
• CWL Environmental Resolutions: Put into action the plans from 2023.01, 2024.03, 2022.01, 2018.02.
Together, our everyday choices become a collective witness of faith in action.
Together, our power helps protect our planet.
