Each year on May 5, Canadians gather to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Red Dress Day, inspired by Métis artist Jaime Black’s REDress Project, has become a powerful national symbol of remembrance — a visual reminder of lives lost, families grieving, and the urgent call for justice.
For 16 years, Indigenous peoples and allies have marched, prayed, created art, and displayed red dresses to call loved ones home and to demand meaningful change.
As the Ontario Provincial Council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, we reaffirm our commitment to “walking together” with Indigenous peoples. On this day, we are invited to let the truth of these stories ignite our passion for justice, compassion, and understanding — and to empower His mission by responding with prayer, education, and concrete action.
We encourage members to take time to reflect, learn, and honour the lives of MMIWG.
